Ever day-dreamed about having a house made from a plane? Chances are your fantasies have nothing on our friend, Bruce Campbell. He had a passion for all-things aviation since his teens, and he’s taken it to unparalleled heights!
One day, he chanced upon a heart-breaking spectacle on his TV – abandoned old airplanes, called “airplane boneyards”, languishing on the ground. And he thought, “Why leave a stunning creation like a Boeing 727 to rust away?”
You’d think he’d start a campaign, write a letter, something of that sort. Nah, not Bruce. He decided to buy an entire decommissioned aircraft for himself, for the tidy sum of $100,000. Huzzah! Buying the plane via a salvage company, however, proved to be a bit of a bump. He suggests buying an intact, grounded jetliner and gutting it yourself sounds like more fun.
Once the Boeing 727 was his, what language did it speak? Home Sweet Home. He spent an additional $15,000 on furniture, home appliances, down right to a portable washing machine to transform the grounded bird into his cozy nest with equivalent comforts of a modern home. Once you cross the portal into his domain, you’d swear you’ve entered a swanky home, minus the levitating experience!
At the heart of his plane-castle, a comfy futon sofa awaits, and tucked in a cozy corner is his “nerd cave” where he indulges in his hobby of restoring electronic gadgets.
Stroll around the grounded airplane, and you’ll marvel at the shrewdly-utilized wooden beams that support the fuselage to fit its landlubber life. His monthly maintenance? Only $370, that’s it!
The only speed-breaker on his glide path to bliss? His sweetheart! While Bruce prefers the grounded aircraft life, his gal isn’t quite ready to buckle up for the same journey. Fear not, folks, our protagonist dreams about building a similar grounded air-home in Japan to be closer to his lady love one day.
Until then, Bruce is living it up in his unique airplane abode nestled next to the woods. He never misses an opportunity to flaunt his unconventional lodging to the world. Because let’s face it: who wouldn’t want to boast about living in a real-life Boeing 727 that’s parked right in their backyard? It’s an exclusive address you’ll not find on any regular neighborhood map!
Bruce clearly loves the unique and outrageous, and he’s got no qualms sharing his quirky living situation with the world. If you ever find yourself in his neck of the woods, don’t be surprised if you spot a Boeing 727 nestled cosily amidst the trees – it’s just Bruce, living his sky-high dreams right here on terra firma!
