Ah, mom-shamers. For a second there, I thought they were silenced for good, but I was wrong.
As long as the internet exists, the parent police will always be on patrol.
It seems they were just distracted by other things that have been happening in the country, like the divine designs at the Met Gala, but now that it’s over, they’ve found their next target.
Little People, Big World cast member Audrey Roloff recently shared some new photos of her daughter and something about it has people raging.
Audrey and her husband, Jeremy Roloff, welcomed their first child, baby Ember Jean back in September 2017, seven months after announcing that they were expecting.
“She’s beautiful. We are feeling so thankful and blessed that God has entrusted us with this little life,” the couple said in a statement to Us Weekly. “We are excited for the journey of parenthood that lies ahead. Welcome to our family Ember, may you be a glowing, fierce, and radiant light in this world.”
The couple have since documented many of Ember’s milestones on social media for their fans to see, including her monthly growth progress, doctor visits, and trips.
Audrey recently shared lots of adorable photos of their family trip to Maui, Hawaii, along with captions about motherhood and family bonds.
Despite all the positive and sentimental words, some people were still up in arms about one of the photos where little Ember’s is not wearing any clothes and her bottom is visible.
While some people called the snaps “cute” and that Ember will grow up to “love seeing these photos of her adorable tush and beautiful mama,” others were very upset.
“Can you imagine if your naked butt was on the internet somewhere?? Think about the pictures of your children before you post them … Nothing on the internet goes away,” wrote one follower.
“She’s really cute but naked photos of your kids shouldn’t be shared with the world, they should be kept private,” added another.
One person went as far as calling the new mom “dumb and stupid” for not putting a diaper on the child.
There were also a few others who were more concerned about the baby’s health than anything else.
“I cringed when i saw these pics too…how unsanitary for baby’s privates to be right up against the sand….!!! Like that’s just asking for baby to have some kind of infection 😳,” wrote one commenter.
Another chimed in: “I know everyone thinks naked babies are cute, but when you are in the ocean and on the beach they need to have on suits and/or diapers. There is too much bacteria in the water and on the sand.”
It’s been a couple of days, but neither Audrey nor Jeremy have bothered to address the comments. This is probably because they’ve learned from past experience that it’s best to not respond to people to the online critics
This isn’t the first time that Audrey has found herself at the center of a parenting controversy.
Back in January, the reality star and blogger found herself in hot water after sharing a home video of herself and Jeremy tickling Ember.
“Don’t tickle babies it will make them stutter. It hurts their nervous system. Think what it does to you if someone holds your arms and tickles you,” said one viewer, echoing the sentiment of many more in the comments.
Torture. How would you like it if you were restrained and tickled. Why take a chance if there is a chance. Many ways to make a baby smile. Geesh,” wrote another.
Another commenter added that ticking a child is “NOT a good idea” because “it renders them absolutely HELPLESS with a natural uncontrollable response of laughter. There are much better and more healthy ways to make a baby laugh!”
Despite the large number of critics, there were many who came to the couple’s defense, saying that there is nothing wrong with tickling a baby.
“I was a pediatric assistant for five years and never once heard ANY of the doctors tell a parent tickling a child would hurt their nervous system!” read one comment.
It goes without saying that if a child looks like they’re hurting or distressed, then the parent should stop tickling them, but from the looks of the video, baby Ember was enjoying the tickles.
The negative comments didn’t stop Audrey and Jeremy from sharing more photos and videos of their family.
Jeremy recently posted a photo of his family with a caption detailing a scary incident that sent Ember to the emergency room while they were on vacation.
Our trip is almost over, and what a trip it’s been! Last night however, Ember came down with a random fever. It escalated high enough to take her in and get checked out – Audrey and I both took note that it was the nicest clinic. They said she appears to be fine, and must be fighting some virus and to keep her hydrated. So we did, and she appears to be on the up and up,” wrote the doting dad.
He continued, “Man, now I know what it feels like when your child comes down with something – out of love you want to trade places with them. It makes me thank Jesus, because that’s exactly what he did. Trades places with us – only death is far more eternal than a fever.”
It’s been a few days since Ember’s health scare, and thankfully, the seven-month-old is doing just fine.
Regardless of what critics says, we have no doubts that Audrey and Jeremy are doing their best to raise their daughter well, and it shows.
