‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek Reveals His One Regret In Life

Alex Trebek is often the one asking the questions, but it is now the Jeopardy! host’s turn to answer a few about himself.

The television personality recently spoke to People magazine, and got very candid about his life on and off-camera, especially while talking about his marriage.

“I’m pretty satisfied with my life,” Trebek, who has hosted the game show for 35 years, said before revealing his one and only regret.

While speaking about his marriage to Jean Currivan, Trebek explained that he and his wife “have been together for almost 29 years,” but he wishes that the number was higher.

“I was thinking about President Bush when he died, and all the comments about his life about what a nice guy he is, and how he and his wife had been together 73 years. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, if I’d just met Jean in my 20s we could have had a longer life together,'” he told the publication.

However, due to their 24-year age gap, it would’ve been impossible for Trebek, 78, to meet his wife while he was in his 20s.

“I guess if I’d met her when I was in my 20s she wouldn’t have been born yet,” he joked. “But hey, 29 years is pretty good!”

Trebek met Currivan, a real estate project manager from New York, a few years after his 1981 divorce from his first wife. The pair, who got together in 1988, tied the knot in 1990, and later welcomed two children, Matthew and Emily.

“They’re really sharp, and have done their due diligence in their respective endeavors,” the Canadian-born host gushed about his son and daughter.

Trebek also touched on his life away from the Jeopardy! set, revealing that he’s a homebody who likes to “fix things.” Even when he was younger, he never liked going out much.

“I was never into going out to clubs,” he confessed. “It wasn’t my scene.”

Once again, Trebek addressed the rumors about his retirement, and he’s reassured fans that he isn’t going anywhere, at least not for a few years.

“People have been wondering if I was going to retire for years, but if I wanted to really try something new, it would be acting,” he said. “Do I want to be in that kind of grind? Obviously, I don’t since I haven’t done anything about it. I have a simple philosophy about things like this: If you really wanted it, you would have done something about trying to get it.”

Trebek’s latest contract expires in 2022.

Congratulations to Trebek and Currivan on their upcoming anniversary!
