It’s no secret that we all have an obsession with salt.
It adds flavor to our foods, reminds us of the ocean, and prevents us from slipping on ice in the winter.
This condiment actually has more uses beyond the kitchen. For example, salt can remove musty odors, keep ants at bay, remove stains, and more!
Many people have picked up on some of these clever hacks, but one salt hack that many people are unaware of is the benefits this seasoning has for our hair and scalp.
Last year, I added salt to my shampoo and I’ll never go back!
It may seem strange at first to add something you put in your food to your hair product, but you’ll reap the benefits in the short and long term.
And you don’t have to worry about allergies or anything like that because salt is 100% natural!
For me, it took about a week or two to notice positive results. I was so pleased that I started adding salt to my shower gel too.
Let me explain why salt is so great for your hair and skin:
Prevents your hair from getting oily
Salt is just what you need if you have greasy and oily hair.
Just like how salt can absorb and clean grease stains, it can prevent your scalp from getting oily.
Sometimes I can go days without washing my hair, not that I do, but I don’t have to deal with it getting oily after just a day.
So if you want to curb the amount of oil your scalp produces, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of salt in your shampoo.
You’ll notice results in just a week!
Treats your dandruff or scalp problems
This condiment protects your scalp from fungal growth and eliminates dandruff.
You can combat these problems by adding a couple tablespoons of salt in your shampoo.
If your problem is quite serious, you might have to massage your wet scalp with sea salt after you wash your hair like you normally do.
Spending at least 10 minutes massaging the salt on different parts of your scalp will do wonders for your skin.
Good for hair growth
Everyone wants a full head of luscious hair.
Adding salt to your shampoo won’t make you the next Rapunzel, but it will prevent and stop hair loss by stimulating new hair to grow.
You can add a couple of tablespoons of salt to your shampoo to achieve this, or you can massage your wet scalp with sea salt for at least 10 minutes for faster results.
Now that you know all the benefits salt has for your hair, what kind should you go about using?
There are many different kinds of salt, and the type that you use can make a big difference on the health of your scalp and hair.
These three types of salt are your best options, and the best part is that you probably already have them in your home!
1. Table Salt
The iodized table salt in your cupboard is great to treat hair loss.
2. Sea Salt
This type of natural salt is packed with nutrients that nourishes your scalp and protects your hair follicles.
3. Epsom Salt
This type of salt has a lot of great uses inside the tub, which includes removing the excess oil in your hair.
You can also add more volume to your hair by combining equal parts Epsom salt and conditioner. Let it sit for 20 minutes before you rinse.
Will you be adding salt to your shampoo from now on?
