Country Singer Walker Hayes And Wife Laney Mourn Loss Of Newborn Daughter

Country singer Walker Hayes says that his newborn daughter has died.

Hayes, 38, asked for privacy as he and his wife, Laney, grieve the loss of their seventh child.

“It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven,” Hayes wrote on Twitter. “Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve.”

In July, Hayes opened up to PEOPLE about his family life, and explained that although he and Laney only planned on four children, they “just kept going.”

“Everybody thinks I’m crazy having six kids and chasing this dream,” Hayes explained, adding that he tells his wife, “You’re crazier than anybody because you married me, and you’re still around for all this.”

The couple had announced they were expecting their bundle of joy in November of last year, and gushed over the family’s excitement.

“My kids are losing their minds excited,” Hayes told Taste of Country, adding that his oldest child, Leila, “cried because she was so happy about having a new brother or sister.”

In the same interview Hayes also revealed the couple had been planning a home birth for their daughter.

“We’ve almost had a couple in the car, and I’m not the guy you want to have a kid in the car with. I’m pretty chill, but once birth starts I go the opposite of chill.”

After Hayes announced the loss of newborn daughter, Twitter users have reached out to the country music star to send their sympathies.

Hayes was nominated for breakthrough video of the year for his video for “You Broke Up With Me” during Wednesday’s CMT Awards and was scheduled to perform at the awards show in Nashville. However, he has canceled all immediate upcoming appearances.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hayes family during this difficult time.
