‘The Office’ Meets Newsprint: Oscar Returns as ‘The Paper’ Teases Fall Premiere

Remember when Oscar Martinez was crunching numbers at Dunder Mifflin? Well, he’s back! “The Paper,” the highly anticipated spinoff of “The Office,” is officially set to hit screens this September, and we’ve got all the juicy details you need.

The first-look image just dropped, showing Oscar Nuñez reprising his beloved role alongside series lead Domhnall Gleeson, who appears to be channeling some serious Michael Scott energy by standing on a desk while addressing his newspaper staff. Talk about a throwback to the mockumentary style we all fell in love with!

The spinoff centers around the fictional Toledo Truth-Teller newspaper, where a documentary crew (sound familiar?) follows Gleeson’s publisher character as he attempts to breathe new life into the struggling publication. While Toledo has a rich real-world newspaper history including the Toledo Blade (founded way back in 1835!), this fictional paper will serve as the perfect backdrop for workplace hijinks and documentary-style confessionals.

Oscar’s return isn’t just random fan service-series creator Greg Daniels had apparently been eyeing this character crossover from the beginning. When we last saw Oscar, he’d moved on from accounting to become a Pennsylvania State Senator, which creates a natural connection to the newspaper world of “The Paper.”

As for Gleeson, this marks his first major TV comedy series, though the Irish actor has already proven his versatility across blockbusters like “Star Wars” and critically acclaimed projects like “Ex Machina.” He’ll be joined by “White Lotus” star Sabrina Impacciatore, with production having kicked off last July.

Will Gleeson’s publisher be as hilariously clueless as Michael Scott? Will Oscar bring his “Actually…” energy to the newsroom? September can’t come fast enough!
